VNX-GH-018 – Comment-triggered workflow without an author check

Overview

issue_comment runs with a write token and secrets, and anyone who can comment can trigger it. A ChatOps command (/deploy, /release, /retest) without an author_association or permission check runs for every GitHub user on a public repository.

Remediation

Gate the job on github.event.comment.author_association being OWNER, MEMBER or COLLABORATOR, or check the commenter’s permission with the API before acting.
